Fairtrade farmers to increase by 100% thanks to new investment (Oct 2009)

Oct 2009

A consortium of donors headed by the UK government has announced the provision of £12 million in funding to the Fairtrade Foundation UK and Fairtrade Labelling Organisations International (FLO). This investment will allow Fairtrade to increase the number of farmers in its system by 100% (up to 2.2 million) and extend the reach of Fairtrade programs into conflict zones and other fragile states. It is expected that the investment will result in a three-fold increase in worldwide sales of Fairtrade products, reaching €9.8 billion by 2014.
