FSC reduces barriers to certification in the tropics (Aug 2009)

Sep 2009

With extra technical difficulties and weak political/institutional support for responsible management, forest managers in the tropics have long had difficulty achieving FSC certification. To increase access to certification, the FSC has created a new guide as part of its GEF Project to help small forests and low intensity operations comply with its Principles and Criteria. The guide addresses the certification body’s biodiversity requirements on environmental impact and the maintenance of High Conservation Value Forests (HCVFs) in the tropics. It also strives to help forest managers implement good monitoring practices. For more information on the guide and the GEF Project. See
