Sustainability Issues

Description of Our Sustainability Program:

Prepress Practices:

• Exclusively utilize computer to plate technology, eliminating film and film processing chemistry from the production process
• Employ digital inkjet proofers that produce less waste, utilize less energy and employ recyclable ink cartridges
• Employ digital soft proofing technology that enables internet-based transfer of proofing files to customers; reducing proofing paper and ink usage as well as transportation costs of hard proofs
• Recycle/Reuse all plastic plate chemistry containers
• Recycle/Repurpose electronic components that have surpassed their productive life
• This includes: computers, monitors, scanners, printers
• Employ more efficient, longer life plate chemistry that reduces the amount chemistry required to process a plate
• Recycle all printing plates after use

Press Practices:

• Utilize no Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) ultraviolet printing inks
• Utilize vegetable based conventional inks
• Utilize no VOC ultraviolet coatings
• Utilize low VOC water-based coatings
• Utilize tubed-ink and tub dispensing ink technology to eliminate residual can ink and ink skinning (oxidation) waste.
• Employ an in-house ink lab to mix required PMS colors, minimizing waste from over-ordering
• Employ ink inventory software that allows us to re-employ excess ink in new ink formulations
• Recycle blankets and blanket bars
• Recycle plate packing
• Internally recycle and re-utilize press wash up chemistry, eliminating press wash-up chemical disposal
• Internally filter press fountain solution, drastically reducing the amount of press fountain waste that is sent out for chemical recovery
• Utilize corn based spray powers that are recovered in a spray powder recovery system or filtered, minimizing fugitive dust discharge to the environment
• We have invested in state of the art printing equipment that eliminates environmental waste generated by the printing process, for example:
• Fewer make-ready and spoilage sheets
• More-efficient, lower chemical usage wash-up systems
• More-efficient, lower energy consumption equipment

Finishing Practices:

• We have invested in automated equipment that reduces material production and setup paper spoilage
• We recycle all machine oil waste

Digital Practices:

• Utilize digital color and black technology which includes:
• Environmentally safe toner
• Recyclable waste toner and fuser cartridges
• Have reduced or eliminated production and setup paper spoilage
• Do not use plates or chemistry in the printing process
• Smaller equipment manufacturing footprint

Recycle Program:

• 100% of all paper waste generated in our office and manufacturing spaces
• Printed and unprinted; coated and uncoated; corrugate and chip board; web, wrap and tape cores
• 100% of our plastic waste
• Printing plastic material, shrink film, stretch film, bottles, banding and other plastic items
• 100% of our used batteries, steel strapping, light bulbs, machine oils, ink waste, oil socks and company cell phones
• 100% of our chemical containers are recycled or re-used
• 100% of paper skids, paper wrapping materials, paper cartons, stub rolls are recycled or re-used

Our complete Recycling Program has enabled us to reduce garbage disposal by nearly 70%
