There are few trademarks in the world that can match the Nordic Ecolabel. It is a world-leading Ecolabel with stringent environmental and climate criteria for 63 product groups. With more than 1100 Swedish companies that market over 6500 Nordic Ecolabelled products, the Nordic Ecolabel is in a class by itself.  For a little more than 20 years ago (1989) the Nordic Ecolabel became the official Ecolabel for the Nordic countries. The purpose was to provide consumers with a tool (our Nordic Ecolabel logo) to help them choose among the best, from an environmental standpoint, products on the market. Criteria is developed by using a life-cycle perspective.. That means that we judge the environmental effects a product has from several aspects: energy and water usage, kinds of chemicals used, recycling and reuse of waste products. If we believe that by providing Nordic Ecolabel criteria for this group we can positively influence the production processes for that product group, then we work in our Nordic organisation on developing criteria. Today many products and services can apply for our voluntary Nordic Ecolabel licence, and that includes hotels, restaurants, cleaning services, batteries, cleaning detergents - in total 63 product groups. The Nordic Ecolabel is a Type 1 ecolabel.
