Description

Tesco asks its suppliers to comply with its Natures Choice scheme to ensure that fruit, vegetables and salad are produced to high safety, quality and environmental standards. The scheme sets standards on wildlife and landscape conservation. This has allowed Simon Elworthy, a fruit grower in Kent who supplies high-quality apples to Tesco from Plumford Farms to develop his enthusiasm for protecting the environment and encouraging biodiversity. Hes created wild flower meadows on his farm that mimic the natural flora and fauna of the local area. And he’s also encouraged plant growth in the grass strips between the rows in his newly planted orchards, which has led to a reduction in spraying as natural predators have taken over.
